Tall cell tower proposed to be sited by the environmental illness community near Snowflake
For the past 30 years, people with environmental illness have come from all over the world to make their home in a remote part of Northern Arizona, just north of the town of Snowflake in Navajo County. A small community of custom built homes, made of non-toxic materials, has grown there where the neighbors know and support one another. The peace and quiet enjoyed by all in this community was recently disrupted when Verizon applied for a Special Use permit to install a 120 foot cell tower at the main road that leads directly into this community.
The Navajo County Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that the Navajo County Supervisors approve the permit application on August15, 2024. The County Supervisors will vote on this application on September 24. According to one Planning Committee Commissioner, their “hands are tied” by federal laws.
